“Straw straw” MUJI AWARD 03 Gold Prize
MUJI AWARD 03 was announced. That was opened 3 times since 2005. 1,986 entries from 35 countries applied on this time.
Gold Prize is “Straw straw” by Yuki Iida (Japan). That is made with really natural straws of wheat.
I want to try it to drink something !! I think it’s a true eco-product. I can hardly wait it will be available at MUJI Store.

MUJI ventures various businesses in Japan
After MUJI New York store was opened in 2007, “MUJI” has been known internationally as much as “UNIQULO”.
In Japan, they have started as a private brand of the supermarket giant “SEIYU” in 1980’s. (Now it has become independent and been managed by“Ryohin Keikaku CO., Ltd.” )
Their first shop was opened in Aoyama, Tokyo in 1983. It is not a luxurious upmarket brand, but the fairly priced ultra simple & minimal products of theirs must have appealed to the taste of Japanese people.
In Japan, they also venture various other businesses not operated overseas, including three camping sites, floral shop “Hanayoshi”, cafe & delicatessen “Cafe＆Meal MUJI”, as well as a housing business.

They are a company that proposes customers the entire life-style and offers products for all aspects of individual lives.

MUJI AWARD 02
The MUJI AWARD is a design competition organized by MUJI. This is its 2nd year. Some of the leading designers like Naoto Fukazawa or Jasper Morrison joins as one of the judges, and it should be one of the best stepping-stone design competitions for young product designers and alike. Those award-winning works will be produced as new MUJI products, too.
The theme of the 2nd year comp that has just been announced the other day is “RE”- （Re-think,Re-design,Re-use etc.）.
My favorites are the Gold award winning “Towel with further options”, which you can cut into the sizes you like before use, and a schedule notebook with clock-shaped scheduling sections, “Chronotebook”. Both will be available for sales in this coming spring.

There are also some product concepts won the awards. For example, a cubical shaped salt ( just like a block sugar). It sounds like making your cocking time more fun!
