I want to show off my yosegi card case.
I got it from IZUMIYA in Hakone, the place is near Tokyo but famous for hot spring and beautiful views.
Also, famous for Japanese wooden marquetry wares – called “yosegi zaiku”.

It is slightly too big to bring, but very beautiful!

Kate Spade collaborated with Doubledoors, a cafe in Shichirigahama.
The roof and signboards painted refreshing blue patterns, cute Kate’s summer ad posters decorated in the shop.

Sea breeze blown gently against my cheek. It was a good lunch time.

Art Tower Mito

I went to Mito to see the “Power Sources” exhibition by Gerda Steiner & Jörg Lenzlinger at Art Tower Mito.

Though rare for Japan, it was an exhibition where visitors are allowed to take photos, so I did so enthusiastically.

With lots of works featuring things like cell and mineral motifs, it was all very interesting.

There were many works that were to be appreciated through some form of participation, such as looking at them while sprawled in a bed or while sitting in a swing, so it was a very fun exhibition.

I went for lunch to the traditional western style restaurant Kotouri in Tochigi.

kotouri3

Inside the restaurant there was a very relaxing atmosphere with wooden furnishings.

kotouri4

The most highly recommended dish here is the pork saute.
This tender pork dish comes with an ample helping of rich sauce. It was really delicious.

The city of Mashiko in Tochigi Prefecture is famous for its pottery, called Mashiko wares.
Twice a year, in Spring and Fall, the city holds “pottery city.”

mashiko4

mashiko5

Ceramic artists from all over Japan gather there to sell and exhibit all of their creations.

mashiko6

There are also food stalls, giving it a festival-like atmosphere.

It was really fun to walk around, feeling the sun on my face while looking at beautiful pottery.

There are many Pilot Shops in Ginza where you can get each prefecture’s touring information and purchase its local specialities.
Today I bought plums, dried pear, and fruit juice at a Yamagata shop.
It’s fun looking for yummy and cutely designed things.
Going around antenna shops is a simple way to enjoy the taste of touring.
