Toilet paper ORIGAMI

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Sometimes when using a store’s restroom, you might notice the end of the toilet paper has been folded into a tip as a way to  say, “this restroom has been cleaned.” But if one time, the tip of the toilet paper was folded not into a triangle, but instead into the shape of a heart, what would you think?

Origami-loving Tokyo University students began making origami out of toilet paper. It caught on and “Toilet Paper Origami” is spreading. They have made a website which features a collection of figures such as hearts, clovers, and rabbits as well folding instructions. Why not give it a try with your own bathroom’s toilet paper?

“THERMAE ROMAE” is a much talked-about manga (graphic novel) series in Japan.

THERMAE ROMAE

“THERMAE ROMAE” is a much talked-about manga (graphic novel) series in Japan. An architect in ancient Rome, who is a specialist in baths, travels through time to a “sento”(a Japanese pubic bath), in modern-day Japan, and applies the styles of the baths and ideas that he observes to ancient Roman baths.

The author Mari Yamazaki’s husband (who is Italian) being a researcher, there are many historical elements, but this is a work of fiction. There have been numerous history mangas in Japan, but this is the first which deals with ancient Rome. With a mixing of a familiar theme of baths, and the ancient Roman way of life, this is a very interesting read.

The Tokyo Gas commercial “Compilation of BENTO mails”

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

The BENTO in the Tokyo Gas commercial “Compilation of BENTO mails” all look really delicious!

I will explain the contents of this commercial.

Every day a mother prepares BENTO containing a message for her high school son. If he obtained bad grades in a test, she would include a message that said “Try harder!” by making TONKATSU BENTO (because in Japan “win” is pronounced as “katsu”); when she saw him walking with his girlfriend, she would make a BENTO with a heart in it; but finally came the day for his last BENTO.
The last BENTO was the same as the very first BENTO that she made. As she was about to wash the dishes, she opened the BENTO box and a note from her son came out that said “Sorry for not being able to say thank you until now.”

Hmm, very emotional!
Because in Japan, as you know, mothers’ handmade BENTO have a nostalgic image.
